Beyond private coaching, Kirby provided on‑set guidance for major productions such as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Peter Pan, Stick It, Underdog, Prom, and Scream 4. Tributes and Legacy
Nathan Nesbitt, Kirby’s longtime studio manager and assistant of 22 years, confirmed his passing on Wednesday, July 15, and shared an emotional tribute: “I can’t turn on a television or watch a film without recognizing someone John coached, mentored or influenced. His fingerprints are everywhere in this industry.”

Family and Background
Born into a family deeply connected to entertainment, John was the son of actor Bruce Kirby (Columbo) and the brother of actor Bruno Kirby (The Godfather, When Harry Met Sally). His diagnosis of ALS came in 2023 after a fall and subsequent medical evaluation revealed the disease.
